Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool could look to the transfer market for bringing in new faces

With a defensive crisis currently underway at Liverpool FC, boss Jurgen Klopp was doubtful as to whether he would dip into January’s winter transfer window to bring in new centre-back options to replenish his side’s depth at the back.

Long-term injuries to both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, along with a significant time out for the makeshift central defender in Fabinho, has left Klopp with only Joel Matip as the fully fit option to field at the heart of the defence, despite Fabinho being reportedly close to making a first-team return.

When asked by reporters on his state of mind regarding the upcoming transfer window and whether he would consider signing a new player or two to fortify his injury-hit defensive line, Klopp did admit that January’s transfer window presented him the opportunity to acquire fresh blood to shore up his present state of the squad.

“We will see. I don’t know what we can do in January, I have no idea. We can look for solutions from outside, that’s clear. But at the moment we have the situation we have, said Klopp, as quoted by Goal.

“We have talent here. They are young, 18, 19, 23, and we have more experienced players. And in a couple of weeks hopefully we will have midfielders who can play the more defensive role as well.

“In January, I have no idea if we can do something. I have no idea in the moment even if we want to do something. In the moment we are fine. We use the boys we have, and I’m really happy about the chance they have.

As the names of Brighton star Ben White and Bayern Munich rebel David Alaba continue to be linked with an Anfield switch, Klopp’s resolve to go without signing a new centre-back in January is set to be tested to the maximum possible extent, even so, more due to Liverpool FC’s injury crisis waiting to hinder the Merseysider’s title defence campaign.
