Jurgen Klopp admitted that Anfield great Steven Gerrard could eventually become the Liverpool manager in the time to come ahead of the upcoming league game between the Reds and Aston Villa.
Former Liverpool skipper Gerrard took over the managerial reigns at Villa Park following the sacking of Dean Smith and the start to life in the Premier League has been a superb one for the 41-year-old.
With three wins out of the opening four games under Gerrard’s charge, Aston Villa have looked formidable on all fronts and could prove to be a stern challenger for a high-flying Liverpool side.
The Reds have been upbeat in their recent showings with Jordan Henderson and Co. yet to drop any points after returning from the international break but will have a club icon in Gerrard to square up against come Saturday.
Speaking to reporters in his pre-match presser, the Liverpool boss Klopp was asked about a potential return to Anfield for Gerrard in the managerial role with the former admitting he saw Gerrard taking charge of his former club.
“Yes, absolutely I think. But when is the right moment to take the job?
“Stevie is doing really well, he’s very young from a manager point of view, I think it will definitely happen and it will be good for everybody.
“It’s not me who makes this kind of decisions.
“I don’t know what you have to do before to become Liverpool manager. People say you need to win things. I’m not sure about that.
“You have to to win things here, don’t think you have to win things in the past. You can win things in the past and never win anything again.”
