As the Reds’ piled on a 64th successive unbeaten stretch of league fixtures at Anfield, Jurgen Klopp’s side managed to break a club record in the process, something that was hailed by the Liverpool FC boss following Sunday’s 3-0 win over Leicester City.
An own goal from Johnny Evans and headers from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino meant that Klopp’s men took all three points from a game which was billed to be the most high-profile fixture across the weekend games in the Premier League.
Hailing the superb achievement of his team in his interview to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Klopp was generous in his praise for the Liverpool FC side, with the German saying that it was the players who had given their very best in each game to carry on his incredible run of unbeaten home fixtures.
“Look, my problem is that in the moment I spoke so much about football, I have so much to think about how we can play the next game and things like this. So it doesn’t feel it”
“But it’s absolutely incredible, but it’s all about the boys. It’s really difficult to achieve something like this but when you think about how tight a lot of games were then it doesn’t happen just like this.
“You have to really dig in for that and the boys did that. I said it a few times before, we really enjoy playing here. It’s our ground, it’s our home, everything feels home – even when the people are not here.”
“So, what the boys put out there on the pitch performance-wise is absolutely incredible and it’s the only reason for the number.”
Liverpool FC’s home run in the Premier League has been extraordinary by all standards, as Klopp’s side have been relentless in their ways to snatch a last-minute victory in many of games they have played in recent seasons.
However, for now, the Merseysiders still trail the league record of unbeaten home fixtures set by Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea side, on which racked up an 86-game unbeaten run, before finally being broken with a 1-0 loss to Liverpool FC themselves in 2008.
