Jurgen Klopp backs Mohamed Salah for Ballon d’Or glory

Jurgen Klopp has backed his Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah for Ballon d’Or glory on the back of the Egyptian’s fantastic run of form of late in front of the goal.

Salah has been the star turn for a high-flying Liverpool side that remain unbeaten across all competitions this new season and are just a point adrift of the league leaders Chelsea in the Premier League standings.

Despite speculation remaining rife over his future on Merseyside beyond the next summer amid contract extension talks with the Liverpool board stalling for a while now, the player continues to perform at his highest level for his side.

With two fantastic solo strikes in his last two outings against Manchester City and Watford, the focus has come on Salah’s ability on the pitch and whether the Egypt international stands a chance of winning the much-coveted Ballon d’Or award.

Speaking in the pre-match presser ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against La Liga giants Atletico Madrid, Jurgen Klopp admitted that Salah was in the reckoning for the top honour should his showings over the past two years be taken into account.

“Yes.

“I have no idea how you win the Ballon d’Or. If it’s about being in the Champions League final and scoring the most goals, it may be difficult, but if it’s on the form of the last two years, then he has a chance. Internally he always got the recognition, externally I don’t know.

“After the two goals he has scored people, all of a sudden, think he could be[ the best in the world]. He has scored like this before and has performed on the highest level for many years. He will do it again and again. Whatever you want to write about him, do it, he deserves it, but now we prepare for Atletico.”
