Jurgen Klopp confirms Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s ankle injury post Brentford win

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s ankle injury in the aftermath of the win against Brentford on Sunday.

Chamberlain was on the scoresheet in the 3-0 victory for Klopp’s men with the midfield man netting Liverpool’s second goal with a diving header from a fantastic Andy Robertson delivery into the box.

With Liverpool missing both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane in their attacking ranks owing to the duo’s participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, Chamberlain’s stellar display was of much importance to Klopp’s depth in the forward roles.

An injury, however, could spell out trouble for the already depleted Merseysiders with Chamberlain picking up an ankle issue which led to his substitution as Japan international Takumi Minamino came off the bench to replace him.

Speaking to reporters in his post-match presser, Klopp sounded out hope that Chamberlain’s latest setback on the injury front was not a serious one and would have to be assessed further.

‘Unfortunately, he rolled his ankle, it’s swollen.

‘I hope it’s not serious, but that’s a shadow on the game.

‘He was really good. We don’t know yet. Hope it’s nothing serious but we will get more info tomorrow. Too early to say, I have no idea.

‘This is the life of a footballer, no-one did anything wrong, just happened. Let’s wait for it, we don’t know anything about it yet.’
