Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp sounded out confirmation in his pre-match presser that the trio of Alisson, Fabinho and Jones will miss Saturday’s league outing against Watford at Vicarage Road.
Brazil international pairing Alisson and Fabinho had been tipped to be absent for the upcoming game with both players set to take a flight straight to Madrid where Liverpool are due to face Atletico Madrid next week in the Champions League group stage tie.
“We’ve known it for a while. The boys will not be here, they will go directly to Madrid.
“Fabinho and Alisson have to come back later [from Madrid]. It’s 10 days after Thursday. These are the rules. They could fly into England but with quarantine they’d have been away from families. Ali has 3 kids, not ideal. We need solutions.”
Jones was an injury concern for Liverpool after picking up a knock during the recent international break with the England U21’s side and will be on the sidelines for the Vicarage Road showdown.
“Curtis Jones came back from England U21s injured, which is not good. It’s hard to get in touch with them. They played Andorra, great, important he played there, come back injured, not available for tomorrow.”
Liverpool could be in line for an injury crisis in their midfield ranks with Thiago Alcantara already an absentee for Saturday’s game while Jones and Fabinho too have been deemed unavailable.
Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be the options available at Klopp’s disposal for the three slots in the midfield for the travelling party.
