Jurgen Klopp confirmed a fresh injury setback for Diogo Jota who was forced to sit out Liverpool’s pre-season opener against Manchester United in Bangkok.
The Merseysiders suffered a big 4-0 defeat at the hands of their arch-rivals in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer with Klopp unable to call upon the services of attacking star Jota.
Jota suffered an issue he sustained while on international duty with Portugal last month and it is understood that a recurrence of the same prevented the 25-year-old from featuring in the United clash, according to Klopp’s remarks to the club’s official website.
“So, Diogo is unlucky. Diogo was not involved [against United] because of an injury he got at the end of his season.
“He trained yesterday fully and got injured again, so that’s really not cool but we have to wait for the results. He had further assessment this morning so we have to see.”
It remains to be seen whether Jota works his way to full fitness levels in time for the start of the new season with the Portugal international presenting himself to be of the star names in the Liverpool attacking lineup.
Klopp has his new recruit Darwin Nunez to fill the void left by Sadio Mane’s departure with the former expected to make an impact sooner rather than later after sealing his move to Anfield from Benfica.
