Jurgen Klopp confirms talks are ongoing over a new contract for Roberto Firmino who has emerged as a top performer for Liverpool so far this season.
Firmino, however, is out of contract in the summer and is free to speak to clubs outside of England about a pre-contract transfer come January when the transfer window reopens for business in the New Year.
Offering a glimpse into the early discussions over Firmino’s extension, as reported by The Liverpool Echo, Klopp admitted that talks had been underway behind the scenes with Firmino and his representatives.
“Normal conversations [are] happening as well, so we will see what happens there.”
It is said that the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp remains keen to tie his No.9 down for the future and with the World Cup break underway, the Liverpool camp would be mulling over their January transfer business and contract renewals.
The Brazilian has netted seven times in top flight action besides proving three assists with the 31-year-old stepping up at Anfield in the injury enforced absence of both Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota.
