Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has put a rest to speculation of the Reds planning to prioritise the Champions League over Premier League football in what remains of the ongoing season.
Klopp’s men have fallen behind massively in the race to secure a second successive top-flight crown and with their hopes of a top-four finish this season in domestic football looking increasingly bleak by each passing fixture, there was talk that the Merseysiders might choose to give their best in European football.
The Reds are due to face German opponents RB Leipzig in the final leg of the tw0-legged Last 16 tie next week after having secured a well-deserved 2-0 win the first time around on their travels to Budapest.
However, as reported by Sky Sports, Klopp played down such rumours with the German insisting that Liverpool FC remained focused on all fronts, adding that further progress into the Champions League knockout stages was not yet ensured for his players ahead of next week’s game against Leipzig.
“We are playing Fulham on Sunday and three days later we play Leipzig – and we are not yet in the next round.
“I cannot think about winning the Champions League because we have to go through difficult rounds – including this one.
“We are not giving up on the Premier League – and that will never happen.
“There is no game we can play and lose and people say ‘look at that line-up, Liverpool are not interested’ because we are not really playing any game behind closed doors because there are always cameras.
“We feel the responsibility that in every game we have to give absolutely everything to win it.
“When it doesn’t happen, it is not enough. But that doesn’t change our attitude.”
