Jurgen Klopp has asserted once again that he intends to stick to his current deal with Liverpool FC amid reports strongly tipping him to succeed Joachim Loew at the German national team beyond this upcoming summer.
Leow will step down as the boss of Germany after the conclusion of the 2021 UEFA Euros and this announcement coming on Monday led to rumour-mongering of Klopp being the leader in the race to take up the managerial reigns of his native country.
However, speaking ahead of Liverpool FC’s forthcoming Champions League game against RB Leipzig on Wednesday night, the 53-year-old Klopp insisted that he remains committed to fulfiling his existing contract with the Reds, one which ties Klopp to the Anfield outfit until 2024.
‘If you want to ask if I am available for the job of the coach of the German national team in the summer… “No”,’ said Klopp, as quoted by the Daily Mail.
‘Jurgi Low did an incredible job for so many years, I think he is the longest servant we had in Germany but for sure one of the most successful.
‘I understand he wants to have this highlight for him of the European Championships and try to squeeze everything out what he can from this tournament and then someone else will do the job. I’m pretty sure with the amount of really good German managers at the moment the German FA will find a good solution.’
‘I just said what I would say to people when they mention names like mine. I said no, after this summer, I will not be available as a potential coach for the German team.
‘I have three years left at Liverpool, that’s a simple statement, a simple situation.
‘You sign a contract and you normally try to stick to that contract don’t you? I had a contracts in Mainz where I stuck with them even though there was interest from other Bundesliga teams with more money. It is just timing. If it doesn’t work out you don’t have to lose any sleep over it.’
Klopp’s men have faltered of late in domestic action and with hopes of securing Champions League football for next season looking increasingly bleak, talk of the ex-Dortmund boss quitting the Merseyside giants at the close of the ongoing campaign has gained traction.
The Liverpool FC manager’s recent comments, however, would be expected to refute such claims on the rise, with Klopp’s assertion of seeing out the remainder of his contract at Anfield.
