Following Sunday’s 3-0 win at Anfield against Leicester City in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp gave positive feedback to queries regarding Mohammad Salah’s return to action, with the German confirming that the Liverpool FC star forward had tested negative for COVID-19.
However, the Reds boss seemed clueless as to whether summer signing Thiago Alcantara will be in the fray to feature against Atalanta in the mid-week UEFA Champions League tie for the Merseyside Reds.
The Spanish international midfielder has not turned out for his new side since sustaining a seemingly significant injury niggle in last month’s Merseyside derby, where Thiago was subject to a rather harsh challenge from Everton’s Richarlison, following which the latter was sent off.
“Thiago is not in team training yet,” said Klopp, as quoted by the Mirror.
“When will he be in team training? I don’t know. We will see.
“I’m as surprised as the public.
“In the morning I come in, we have a medical meeting and they tell me ‘yes he is in, he is not’.
“I know it’s not too far any more [for Thiago], but I have no idea.”
Wijnaldum, Curtis Jones, and Naby Keita were the three Liverpool FC stars that occupied the midfield spots on Sunday afternoon against the Foxes, but the latter limped off the pitch in the opening minutes of the second half owing to a hamstring issue.
Thiago’s return to the lineup would certainly make the team selection dilemma of Klopp’s much easier. but it seems as if the ex-Bayern Munich star has a long way to go before his inclusion in the Liverpool FC XI on Wednesday night.
