Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Thiago Alcantara did suffer a knock in the dying moments of the 2-2 draw against Everton on Saturday, however, the midfielder’s fitness will be assessed ahead of the visit to Ajax for Liverpool FC’s Champions League opener.
The 29-year old Thiago was subject to a very rash tackle from Richarlison, with the latter being sent off as a result. However, the Reds summer signing was able to continue the rest of the game on the pitch, despite evidently coming off second best following the Everton forward’s challenge.
Klopp, however, refused to rule out the ex-Bayern Munich star from first-team action for the upcoming game, saying that the late call will be made on the Spanish international’s match fitness.
Speaking to liverpoolfc.com, the Liverpool FC boss said, “So, yes, he got a knock, a proper knock.”
“All the rest, we have to see. It’s not even close to being as serious [as Virgil van Dijk]. But will he be ready for Wednesday? I don’t know yet. We will see.”
His involvement in the Everton game over the last weekend was only his second game in the Reds shirt, and his debut start for the Premier League champions since his summer move to Anfield on a four-year-long deal.
