Jürgen Klopp has urged his players to remain sharp ahead of the restart of the Premier League on 17th June. The Reds were comfortably seated first in the league table at the time of the suspension of footballing leagues around the world.
The rich vein of the form shown by the Liverpool FC squad had enabled the team to mount a serious title challenge to arch-rivals Manchester City and compete for the league title, which has been awaited by the Reds fanbase for over 30 years.
The Reds have a massive lead of 25 points over Manchester City, who are the only team capable of catching them mathematically in the Premier League table.
Liverpool FC just needs two wins out of their nine remaining games to be crowned the Premier League champions. However, if Manchester City loses either of their two scheduled matches in the Premier League, the Merseyside club can wrap up the title.
Klopp has urged the Liverpool FC squad of not making the mistake of being complacent even in the comfortable situation the team is in with a 25-point lead over Manchester City. Stating that his team still has 27 points to play for, the German coach has voiced his desire of The Reds giving everything that they have got in their locker to win the remaining matches and be crowned the league champions.
In an interview with BBC Sport, he said: “It’s nice to think about it but we are not champions yet and we know that.” “We know we are close but close is not there. There are 27 points left for us and we will try everything to take them all. We are still not champions. We have to play football games and we have to win them.”
The Reds have a golden opportunity to smash the points tally record in the Premier League, with the current record being held by Manchester City at 100 points.
Moreover, Klopp voiced his belief that there would be a title parade if the Reds manage to secure the Premier League title.
Almost a year ago, the city of Liverpool witnessed a majestic spectacle when Liverpool FC won their sixth UEFA Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs in Madrid. The parade saw an attendance of nearly six million people, which provides evidence of the fantastic support that the Reds enjoy both locally as well as globally.
The Liverpool FC manager has stated that he is confident that a title-winning parade will happen, even if it is months after the Reds wrap up their title challenge.
