Jurgen Klopp plays down fears over Curtis Jones’ thigh injury

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp played down fears over Curtis Jones’ thigh injury with the midfielder picking up a knock midweek in the FA Cup win over Norwich City.

Jones had been on the starting team sheet for the newly crowned Carabao Cup champions but had to be brought off at half-time with the teenage talent Harvey Elliott coming on to replace him.

In his post-match press conference, Klopp insisted that taking Jones off the pitch had been a precautionary measure with the German coach suggesting that the thigh issue is not a “real injury.”

“Curtis Jones played a really good first half. We had to take him off because he felt the thigh slightly.

“I don’t think it’s a real injury, but there was no need to take a risk and that’s why we brought Harvey on.”

Klopp would be hoping for a respite on the injury front for his Liverpool camp with the midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara nursing a hamstring issue that sidelined him from turning out in the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea.

The Spain international had been named in the Liverpool XI for the Wembley showdown but had to be excluded in a last-minute change with a niggle in warm-up ahead of taking the field for the game.
