Jurgen Klopp played down talk of allowing his central defender Joe Gomez to leave on loan in the forthcoming January transfer window.
The Liverpool boss was speaking to reporters in the pre-match presser ahead of his side playing hosts to relegation favourites Newcastle United in Thursday’s Premier League action at Anfield.
Gomez has been a bit-part player for the Reds this season with Virgil van Dijk partnered by Joel Matip as the first-choice centre-back pairing as summer recruit Ibrahima Konate has been called upon to provide cover time and again.
The England international has failed to start in a single Premier League outing so far this campaign giving birth to speculation that he could be set to demand a move elsewhere and be handed a much-needed career lifeline.
Klopp, however, was insistent that he has no plans to offload his first-teamers on loan come January despite the German admitting it had been a tough start to the season for Gomez who has struggled with a lack of consistent form and injuries.
“It was obviously not the best year for him, but that’s how it goes. We are patient, and Joe is patient.”
“I have no plans to give anybody on loan in the winter.”
