The key Liverpool FC first-team quartet of Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, Virgil van Dijk and Jordan Henderson are on their respective paths to full fitness, confirmed Jurgen Klopp in his pre-game press conference ahead of his side playing Leeds United on the road in top-flight action.
Gomez, Matip and Van Dijk, the three senior centre-back options at Klopp’s disposal at Anfield, had all sustained season-ending injury layoffs with the skipper Henderson joining the recovery table list later on this season with a groin issue.
Gomez’s progress deemed positive by Klopp
Addressing the speculation involving Joe Gomez’s recovery from a long-term injury layoff, the Reds gaffer confirmed that the England international was involved in running drills which was a big step for the defender.
Gomez’s situation looks fine for now and is similar to that of his teammates Van Dijk, Matip and Henderson who all are eyeing a speedy return to the fold at Anfield.
“They all are [on track], Joe as well. Joe is outside running now and all these kind of things, which is obviously always a big step after all injuries.
“He looks fine when he is running, no real reaction in the knee, which is very important. It obviously still takes time but he’s in a good way. Like Virg, Joel and Hendo [are].”
No latest troubles on the injury front for the Reds
There is no further distress on the injury front for the Merseyside Reds following their recent stalemate in Champions League football against Real Madrid which ensured their exit from the competition, according to Jurgen Klopp.
“No, [there is] nothing,” said the Liverpool FC manager.
“I only thought [about the question] because usually I always have some, [but] no new ones.”
