Jurgen Klopp reacts to West Brom draw, admits his players are angry following lacklustre performance

Jurgen Klopp voiced frustration with his side’s uninspiring showing against basement side West Brom on Sunday evening at Anfield as the Merseysiders were held to a 1-1 draw, a result which prevented last season’s champions from opening up a five-point lead at the top of the league table.

A terrific opening goal in the early minutes of the game from Sadio Mane was cancelled out by Sam Allardyce’s men in the 82nd minute following a short corner routine for the Baggies, with Semi Ajayi heading the ball past Alisson Becker to help his team salvage a much-deserved point from their visit to Anfield.

Speaking to the media after the game, Klopp voiced concerns with the performance put in by the Reds and the German admitted that his side’s efforts were quite short of what was expected of them prior to the start of the weekend showdown.

“It was our own fault,” Klopp, as quoted by Express.

“It is a massive challenge when they have six at the back or whatever, but it is our fault and that is what we have to accept.

“The boys are more angry with themselves than anyone. We had enough situations but we didn’t play the right pass.

“I don’t think that anybody can expect that a team plays like West Brom tonight in first half, like a six-four or whatever it was,

“But everybody knows and feels we could and should have done better – it does feel like a defeat.

Sunday’s stalemate meant that Klopp’s men lead second-placed Everton by just three points now ahead of their Merseyside foes playing hosts to title-challengers Manchester City on Monday.
