Jurgen Klopp reveals one player he would re-sign at Liverpool

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp stated that club icon Steven Gerrard would be his “easy” pick as the one former Liverpool player he would bring back to the club if there was a chance to re-sign a legend.

Gerrard left Anfield in the summer of 2015 when after his decision to call it quits with the Premier League giants as he joined MLS outfit LA Galaxy for a season-long sojourn.

Although Gerrard tasted domestic cup glory as well as an incredible Champions League triumph during his time with the Reds, the former England captain failed to win a single Premier League across 17 years with Liverpool.

Recent reports have suggested that Gerrard could be offered a managerial contract at Liverpool following his experience with coaching Scottish Premier League side Rangers since the summer of 2018.

Current Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp recently revealed that he would like Gerrard to be his successor at the club once he leaves Anfield as both men are working on contracts that keep them until 2024 at their respective clubs.

However, the German head coach has also revealed that he would make the former Liverpool captain his first choice priority if he was put in a situation to sign a former Liverpool legend at this current period.

While speaking to BT Sport, Klopp was asked the question and responded saying it was an easy pick to give Gerrard the nod but the 39-year-old would have to fight for his position in a star-studded Liverpool line up, “Stevie, that’s easy! But he’d have to fight for his place.”

The 52-year-old Klopp further explained that he seldom encountered with Gerrard despite staying close to each other since the past four and a half years. He added that the lockdown has ironically allowed him to run into the Liverpool icon more often, “The funny thing is we have lived for four-and-a-half years in the same town and I’ve never seen him before. Since the lockdown, I’ve seen him six or seven times. I go for a dog walk or a run or whatever, and he has a walk with the family, so we’ve seen each other more”
