Liverpool head coach Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Ibrahima Konate’s injury could force Nat Phillips to stay put at Anfield beyond the summer.
Phillips had been heavily linked with a move away from Merseyside in the transfer window this summer with a host of clubs across England keen on moving in for the fifth-choice Liverpool centre-back.
An injury to Ibrahima Konate in Liverpool’s last pre-season outing against RC Strasbourg appears to have caused a rethink of Klopp’s plans of parting ways with Phillips, according to the Reds manager’s comments during his pre-match presser.
“Yeah, probably.
“It will influence the transfers – outgoing transfers – I would say.”
Konate will be sidelined for Liverpool’s opening day clash away at the Premier League’s new boys Fulham which could open the door for Phillips to feature on the bench come Saturday at Craven Cottage.
Jordan Henderson and Co. will look to start the new campaign with a convincing outing away from home turf and claim the three points against Marco Silva’s Fulham who were an outstanding performer in the Championship last term.
