Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Virgil van Dijk will be ruled out with his hamstring injury for a few weeks in the former’s press conference remarks.
The Reds No.4 was brought off the pitch at half-time in Monday’s Premier League defeat away at Brentford for Jurgen Klopp’s side with Klopp later revealing that Van Dijk had complained of muscle discomfort.
When quizzed upon his star player’s fitness ahead of the FA Cup tie against Wolves on home turf this Saturday, the Liverpool gaffer admitted that Van Dijk’s injury was not short-term but the Dutchman could be seen returning in the coming weeks.
“It’s not a short-term and I had longer-term injuries as well in my career as a manager. So, it’s somewhere in between.Â
“He will be out for a few weeks, definitely.”
Van Dijk’s absence could open the door for World Cup runner-up Ibrahima Konate to partner Joel Matip in the heart of the defence for Liverpool with Joe Gomez another viable option to call upon for defensive duties.
Klopp would be hoping for a swift recovery for Van Dijk from his recent injury setback with the Dutchman one of the most influential figures in the Liverpool camp as the Reds look to regain their consistency towards the second half of the campaign.
