Jurgen Klopp speaks out on the centre-back situation at Anfield

Deadline-day signings Ozan Kabak and Ben Davies remain in the fray to be handed involvement in the Liverpool FC colours come Sunday when Manchester City visit Anfield, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseysiders had to use the transfer market in the final hours to bring in fresh faces due to Joel Matip being added to the season-ending injury list and lack of natural options at the back playing spoilsport to Liverpool FC’s run of form.

Jurgen Klopp’s side head into Sunday’s clash against the table-toppers on the back of a disappointing home defeat to lowly Brighton and the focus shall be on the Liverpool FC boss choosing to play his new arrivals at Anfield over the weekend.

Davies, who was signed on a long-term deal from Championship outfit Preston North End, was named amongst the substitutes for the Brighton fixture but Kabak’s inability to secure international clearance prior to the midweek fixture on Merseyside had prevented the Turkish defender from making the matchday squad.

The club’s official website now confirms that Kabak is eligible for selection and when quizzed upon the matter, Jurgen Klopp was hesitant to sound out certainty on whether the new Anfield blood would get to see first-team action against Manchester City.

“I don’t know.

“With our situation, we will see who can play again, who cannot and who should not or who should play again – all these kind of things. Then we will see.

“In an ideal world, you have a few weeks and work together on defensive things, especially organisation and all these kind of things. Ben and Ozan had yesterday an analysis meeting – and they trained – where they got shown all the stuff we do usually, like a centre-half movie.

“So today, proper session. Tomorrow, proper session and we will see. I don’t know yet.”
