Long-term Liverpool FC transfer target Kalidou Koulibaly has cleared the air regarding his future at Napoli beyond this season. The Senegalese center-back has developed into one of the world’s best defenders due to his performances in Serie A over the past seasons.
A number of top European sides have been reported to be interested in signing the 29-year old this summer. Manchester United, Manchester City, and FC Barcelona are rumored to be admirers of Koulibaly and want to sign the central defender before the transfer window closes.
However, the Napoli star has stated his desire to not leaving the Italian side in the near future. According to Koulibaly, he has never spoken to the club’s management about forcing through a move away from the San Paolo Stadium.
The 29-year old asserted his commitment of continuing to play for Napoli in the coming years. Such a commitment comes despite interest from other top clubs in signing him. Koulibaly voiced the possibility of ending his career at Napoli too. The Senegalese international stated that if a new contract is tabled for him to sign, the 29-year old would be happy to continue playing for the Serie A side.
Since joining Napoli from Belgian side Genk in 2014, Koulibaly has amassed more than 200 appearances for the Italian side. His performances for Napoli both domestically and continentally have led to many football pundits label the defender as one of the best in world football.
The Reds have been linked with making a move for the 29-year old Koulibaly since last summer. The Liverpool FC fans would be eager to see a center-back pairing of Van Dijk and Koulibaly line up for the Reds next season.
Moreover, Dejan Lovren is widely expected to depart Anfield before the current transfer window comes to an end. In such a case, only three first-team center-back would be left at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal, namely, Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, and Joel Matip.
However, Liverpool FC attempting to sign Koulibaly this summer seems like a far-fetched possibility. Klopp has already ruled out any big-money signings for the Reds in the ongoing transfer window.
Moreover, with Koulibaly’s price-tag rumored to be around £90 million, Liverpool FC seemingly have withdrawn interest from signing the Napoli man.
