Mohammad Salah’s further tests for COVID-19 have also come out to be negative and the Egypt international is in line to feature against Alanata in tonight’s Champions League fixture, according to Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp.
Salah had missed the Reds’ 3-0 victory over Leicester City on Sunday after testing positive for COVID-19, with the 28-year-old contracting the pandemic virus while attending the wedding celebrations of his brother in Egypt during the recent international break.
However, speaking ahead of his side playing host to the Serie A outfit on Wednesday night, Klopp, as quoted by the Daily Mail, admitted that Salah was in contention to play against their Italian opponents as the Merseysiders aim to clinch qualification to the Round of 16.
“Mo trained with the team yesterday and looked really good. All the tests were negative so now, if nothing changes, he’s available, which is good.
“Now we have to see what we do, because he was quarantined until three days ago.”
The return of Salah to the Reds lineup would be a massive boost for Jurgen Klopp’s side, however, it might mean that the German coach could be enticed to play more of an attack-minded game, with Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mane all expected to feature in the XI as well.
Removing any of the three aforementioned forwards to make way for Salah would be unfair to the players as the trio were in superb form during last weekend’s win against Leicester City, with Jota and Firmino getting their name on the scoresheet.
