Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has laughed off the suggestion which claims the Reds are now certain to win the Premier League title following Thursday’s triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A late strike from Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino secured a 2-1 win at the Molineux Stadium, giving the Merseyside giants 22 wins from 23 league games this season and stretched their lead at the top of the table to 16 points along with a game in hand.
Liverpool has now gone 40 Premier League games without a defeat and appears firmly on course to end its 30-year drought for a top-flight title.
However, Klopp remains insistent his team cannot take anything for granted in the final months of the season despite such a massive advantage over the remainder of the group.
Having not lost a single game this season in England’s top flight, the 52-year-old German was asked by reporters about Liverpool becoming the so-called ‘Inevitables’, and he responded by stating that he couldn’t care less about the tag, “In four and a half years in this country, I think I’ve never heard that word before. I have no clue what you’re talking about. We couldn’t care less about these sorts of things. I think, at this moment, we are not even mathematically qualified for the Champions League next year, so the only thing you can do is focus on the next football game.
He further added that he hadn’t heard of that ‘Invincibles’ before and continued to say that he will not think about it, “So, whatever you say about us… if it’s positive, thank you very much; if it’s negative, I don’t care. That’s it, pretty much. I cannot change the situation. I’ve never heard of anything being decided before it’s decided, so why should we think about these kinds of things?
