Jurgen Klopp was quite open in his resentment towards Liverpool FC’s potential match-winning goal being denied by VAR in the Merseyside derby that took place at Goodison Park on Saturday, according to the interview given to liverpoolfc.com by the boss of the Merseyside Reds.
A well-struck shot past Everton goalie Jordan Pickford by Jordan Henderson meant that the Reds were in line to clinch a narrow 3-2 victory over their city-rivals, however, Liverpool FC’s enjoyment was short-lived due to VAR adjudging Sadio Mane to be offside in the buildup to the goal.
And Klopp did not attempt to hide his clear disappointment with the decision that went against his side, with the German sounding out his frustration at Mane being flagged offside merely due to his arm being a fraction outside the allowed perimeter.
“Look, I’m a real supporter of VAR but you would expect that, especially with offside, you then do the right decision.
“We scored a goal one time at Aston Villa and they said the armpit was offside – sounds funny, we got it.
“This time, the picture I saw now once on the laptop, there is no armpit, there is nothing, we are just not offside. Since then I had 10 interviews around about and everybody tells me it was not offside and that doesn’t lift my mood obviously. You all watched it obviously more often.
The game at Goodison Park did see Liverpool FC get back on their best following the thumping defeat to Aston Villa a fortnight ago, however, late VAR drama and shoddy refereeing meant that Klopp’s men could only fish out a 2-2 draw on their travel away from home.
