Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has stated that Manchester City’s defeat of Real Madrid shows the strength of the Premier League despite Liverpool’s massive lead at the top and he believes the Reds can get even better next season.
Liverpool is a staggering 22 points clear of defending champions Man City as they bid to claim a first league title ever since 1990 in record-breaking style. Liverpool is still unbeaten in the Premier League and has made it to the Round of 16 in the Champions League as well.
Throughout the season, Klopp’s men have dropped points only once all season which was a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford against Manchester United but are still on course to be crowned champions of England.
The German manager has insisted that this is not evidence of a poor top flight in the county by pointing to City’s 2-1 Champions League first-leg victory in Madrid as proof that Pep Guardiola’s side is still a force to be reckoned with.
While speaking to reporters, the 52-year-old said that he does not care for what people say and that the League in England is still very strong, “I couldn’t care less [what people say], Look, it is completely normal. I don’t think that we should have any concern about things like this. If other people think like that, if they think City are not as good as they were, they are. They have scored a little fewer goals than us, conceded a few more, and if you look why, it is clear they have been missing some players.”
He further went on to state that only once any club plays against the big teams in Europe comes the true test, “The other teams are really strong, too. Yes, Bayern [Munich] beat Tottenham and Chelsea [in the Champions League] but they are really strong over a season. Yes, [Tottenham and Chelsea] have had some problems, that’s all true. But at the moment that you play them, you don’t feel that they have these problems. The points they have, we have no influence on that apart from the games when we play them.
