Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has expressed his delight with Jose Mourinho’s return to the Premier League, and the German is also sure that former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino will be in line for a top job pretty soon.
Pochettino guided Spurs to four successive top-four finishes in the league as well as last season’s Champions League final which Spurs lost 2-0 against Liverpool. However, a poor start to the new campaign with the North London side meant that Pochettino was relieved of his position on Tuesday.
Spurs then moved quickly to appoint former Chelsea and Manchester United manager boss as Pochettino’s successor on Wednesday which sparked plenty of headlines.
Liverpool handed Manchester United a 3-1 defeat back in December 2018 which was the final nail in the coffin for Mourinho’s tenure at Old Trafford but Klopp is now thrilled to have his old rival back in the English top flight, though he has no doubt that Pochettino will land another big job at a top club soon enough.
The 52-year-old German was asked about the appointment of Jose Mourinho by reporters and went on to greet the ‘Special One’ as well as speak a few lines about the Argentine Pochettino, “Welcome back Jose. It’s nice to have him back, He was desperate, you could see in the time he wasn’t in [management] but on the other side Mauricio is not anymore and it shows how quickly things change nowadays. Around five months ago we played each other in the Champions League final and now he’s on holiday, I hope he can enjoy it.”
Liverpool is currently at the top of the Premier League table and is have an eight-point lead at the summit over 2nd placed Leicester City.
