Konate to Liverpool deal nears completion as player agrees upon personal terms

Liverpool look all set to confirm the capture of long-term target Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig as the France international is understood to have agreed upon personal terms ahead of his summer switch to Merseyside.

In an interview with TalkSport, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the deal has neared its completion and would be subject to an official announcement in the forthcoming weeks.

“It is really, really close. it is just a matter of time,” said Romano.

“The agreement with the player is done. They want to sign the player. It is just a case of the clubs negotiating.

“The player wants to go. It is a five-year contract. In some weeks, it will be complete.”

The RB Leipzig first-team star has emerged as a leading target for Jurgen Klopp at Anfield with the Liverpool gaffer having struggled this past season due to lack of options at the back owing to the injury crisis.

With the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip all sidelined with season-ending layoffs, Klopp sought to fortify his defensive core and Konate’s credentials made him a player to watch out for.

The Frenchman is tipped to sign a five-year-long deal with the Reds which makes it interesting to see whether the Merseyside outfit will seek to extend Ozan Kabak’s stay at Anfield beyond the summer.
