Newest Liverpool FC recruit Kostas Tsimikas was all smiles following his unveiling as the Merseyside club’s first signing of the 2020 summer transfer window. The Greek left-back arrives at Anfield from Olympiacos on a long-term contract, rumoured to be a five-year deal.
The 24-year old voiced his delight at having joined Jurgen Klopp’s side in an interview to the Reds’ official website, Liverpoolfc.com. He expressed a feeling of pride on his move to Liverpool FC, described the Merseyside giants as the biggest club in world football.
Tsimikas, however, admitted that he did initially believe the rumours of the Premier League champions being interested in signing him this summer. Upon his signing the deal at the Reds’ Melwood facility, the player promised his commitment to the Liverpool FC supporters of giving his best out on the pitch.
The new Anfield arrival further sang praises of the Liverpool FC squad members, especially Andy Robertson, for whom the Greek international would provide cover for at the club. Tsimikas claimed Robertson to be one of the best full-backs in the game. However, the 24-year old expressed hope of Roberton’s presence at Liverpool FC being a motivational factor for himself to perform better.
Tsimikas added that it was an honour to join a club whom he had supported as a child. The former Olympiacos man claimed that his brother, a Liverpool FC supporter himself, was unable to believe him signing for the Reds.
The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was also subject to great admiration from the new signing. Tsimikas labelled the German as ‘one of the best coaches in the world’ and expressed his gratitude towards Klopp for sealing his transfer to Anfield. The Liverpool FC boss had been believed to be keen on securing Tsimikas’s signing for the Reds ahead of their upcoming Premier League title defence.
