Summer signing Kostas Tsimikas is on the verge of staging a comeback to first-team training for the Reds in the coming week, Liverpool Echo reports.
The Greek international was the Merseyside club’s first recruit this summer and was bound to provide cover in the left-back spot to Andy Robertson, following Tsimikas’ brilliant exploits for Olympiacos in the domestic league as well as in the last Champions League campaign.
However, since his move to Anfield, the 24-year old has endured a number of injury concerns, keeping him out of Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squads for the ongoing Premier League season. Tsimikas initially tested positive for COVID-19, and upon his recovery, started Liverpool FC’s 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the third-round fixture of the EFL Cup.
During the cup tie, the Greek full-back picked up a thigh injury, which had so far curtailed the player’s time on the pitch, leading to him missing the subsequent EFL Cup fixture against Arsenal, a game that the Reds lost out on a penalty-shootout.
With an intense schedule of fixtures coming Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool FC’s way, the return of Tsimikas to the first-team fold would come as a major boost for the Anfield giants, on the back of a number of injury issues sustained by key starters of the Premier League champions.
