Leeds United eye a move for Liverpool FC loanee Harry Wilson

Newly promoted to the Premier League, Leeds United are looking forward to signing Liverpool FC loanee Harry Wilson. The Welsh international spent the 2019-20 season on loan at AFC Bournemouth. Wilson is expected to rejoin his Reds’ teammates in a few weeks’ time for the Merseyside club’s pre-season formalities.

Despite the 23-year old attacker’s great individual performances for AFC Bournemouth, the club were unable to avoid relegation after finishing 18th in the final Premier League standings. Wilson, however, ended the 2019-20 league campaign with seven goals to his name in 31 appearances for the Cherries.

The Welsh international’s future at Liverpool FC beyond the current season remains a matter of uncertainty. Wilson has so far not been able to cement his spot in the Reds’ first-team squad. The presence of attacking stalwarts like Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane, and Xherdan Shaqiri at Anfield is a major reason behind Wilson’s inability to rise through the ranks at the Merseyside club.

Despite the fact that Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp is a massive fan of the young attacker’s style of play, the 23-year old has spent a majority of his time on loan at other sides in the hope of greater first-team involvement. He has spent yearlong loan stints at Championship outfits Derby County and Hull City, playing a grand brand of football during the course of these spells away from the Merseyside.

However, at the Cherries, Wilson got his first taste of regular playing minutes on the pitch in the Premier League. The winger did not disappoint during his outings, with the Welshman being a consistent performer for Eddie Howe’s side.

According to reports, Leeds United are in the transfer market for some new acquisitions to bolster their current squad. Playing in the Premier League requires a greater squad depth as opposed to playing in the Championship. As a result, Marco Bielsa’s side have identified the 23-year old Wilson as a major transfer target this summer.

However, it is not certain whether Liverpool FC will be looking forward to sanctioning yet another loan deal for Wilson. With Xherdan Shaqiri’s future at Anfield being considered doubtful, Klopp could turn to Wilson to act as a squad-rotation option for the Reds next season.
