It has been quite a sensational season so far for the Reds as Liverpool recently captured the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar earlier this week, and they will return to England with a 10-point lead over their closest rivals on the table, Leicester City and will also face the Foxes on Boxing Day.
After a tough loss away to Manchester City a few days ago, former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers will host Liverpool at the King Power Stadium as they look to stop their opponent’s unbeaten run and edge closer to them at the summit of the Premier League table.
Jurgen Klopp’s outfit holds a good record Leicester City and over their past eight meetings in domestic competitions, Liverpool has managed to win five and lost just two games against the Foxes. Of course, the Leicester team has been in some great form this term, and this particular contest could go either way at the home of Leicester City.
However, Liverpool is in dream form right now, having lost only two games the entire season (against Napoli in the Champions League and Aston Villa in the League Cup), and winning their last five Premier League game. All in all, the Reds have just one draw and 16 wins out of 17 games this season in England’s top flight and look like the firm favorites to take home the title.
Leicester City has hit a mini-rough patch in their past two league games, as they drew against a poor Norwich City side and lost to third-placed Manchester City in their last game. But, the Foxes still sit one point over Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on the table and have been a tough challenge for every single team that has come up against them.
Croatian defender Dejan Lovren will be out for this game and the next couple of weeks as the center back deals with a muscle injury. Brazilian midfielder Fabinho and Cameroonian center back Joel Matip are still on the sidelines with their return dates still unconfirmed, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be unable to return to action until the New Year as he was injured in Qatar. The rest of the starters will be prepared to go after a tough showing in the FIFA Club World Cup.
Liverpool’s Predicted Starting Eleven – Alisson; Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Andrew Robertson; Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Georginio Wijnaldum Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah
