Liverpool has confirmed that midfield star Leighton Clarkson has signed a contract extension with the club which will keep him at Anfield for three more years.
The 17-year-old Clarkson was incredible for the Liverpool U-18 side last season which won the FA Youth Cup by beating Manchester City in the final.
However, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to bolster his midfield as he feels that there is a lack of creativity in his team to provide his attackers with more goal scoring opportunities. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri, James Milner and Alex Oxlade Chamberlain are just a few of the big-name players in Liverpool’s squad but the German boss wants to give opportunities to his youngsters instead of signing new players in the summer transfer window.
Liverpool has high hopes of Clarkson who joined the club as a kid and has risen through the ranks becoming a regular for the U-18 and U-19’s over the past few seasons.
Clarkson has a tremendous passing range and can also play higher up the pitch or as a defensive midfielder. Last season, the English star made 29 appearances for the U-18 Liverpool squad and scored four times notching up seven assists as well.
Liverpool decided to offer Clarkson a three-year contract deal and the midfielder has already signed his contract extension as the Merseyside club confirmed that the paperwork is complete.
