It was a nervy start to the 240th Merseyside derby contest for both sides with little action in the penalty box on either end of the pitch.
The home side had Sadio Mane try his luck from the edge of the box after spinning around Allan but the former’s effort was a yard too high of the top right corner of Jordan Pickford’s goal.
Everton, meanwhile, were cautioned for their dirty play when Anthony Gordon was booked for simulation in the 24th minute after going down in the box.
Frank Lampard’s men had a good chance through on goal with Richarlison’s pass finding Abdoulaye Doucoure’s run in behind the Liverpool backline only for Doucoure to fluff his strike under pressure from Matip.
Liverpool started the second period with intent as Naby Keita powered his effort into the Kop from distance in the opening minutes.
Klopp rang in changes from the bench and it reaped instant rewards with Mohamed Salah setting up Andy Robertson for a header on the far post to make it 1-0 for the Reds.
A side footer from Thiago was denied by Pickford but Liverpool did not have to wait for long to double their advantage with substitute Divock Origi finding the back of the net after Luis Diaz teed up the Belgian to rubber stamp the win.
