Liverpool returned to winning ways on Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over Scottish outfit Rangers in the Champions League group stage outing at Anfield.

MATCH PROCEEDINGS

Darwin Nunez forced a save from Rangers goalie McGregor inside the opening two minutes with the Liverpool forward powering his shot goalwards.

The home side did have their lead come the seventh minute when Trent Alexander-Arnold stepped up to take a free kick from 20 yards out and made no mistake in finding the back of the net to make it 1-0 for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah came close to doubling the lead for their team with the latter’s attempt to slot in the bottom corner palmed away by McGregor.

The Rangers shot-stopper was having a terrific time between the sticks and was instrumental in keeping the visitors right in the mix with Nunez once again denied by McGregor.

Klopp’s men got the opportunity they wanted to add to their lead seven minutes into the second period when Diaz was brought down in the box, winning the hosts a penalty.

Salah was clinical as ever to convert from the spot and double Liverpool’s advantage which surely rubber-stamped the three points for the Reds.

Joel Matip was inches way from finding the back of the net while Liverpool had Kostas Tsimikas to thank for his clearance off the line to keep out Antonio Colak’s effort.
