Goals on either side of the interval from Diogo Jota and Fabinho helped steer the hosts Liverpool to a 2-0 win over Watford in Saturday’s Anfield showdown.

The home side started the game on the front foot but Watford created chances on the other end of the pitch but none caused too much trouble for the goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Alisson, however, was called into action to deny Juraj Kucka with an important save while Liverpool found the breakthrough just moments later.
Joe Gomez, filling in for the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold in the right-back role, delivered a peach of delivery into the box which was met by the lurking Diogo Jota to make it 1-0 for the Reds.
Midfield maestro Thiago Alcantara had his volley going over the crossbar with Liverpool heading into the half time break with a slender but well-earned lead.
Watford had a great chance coming their way early on in the second period with Ismaila Sarr teed up Joao Pedro but the latter’s finish went just wide of the right post.
Andy Robertson came close to finding Liverpool’s second of the game after Joe Gomez had once again constructed the play from the right side of the pitch.
Liverpool got to cement the result in the dying stages of the game following a VAR check awarding a penalty to the hosts which was dispatched convincingly by the substitute Fabinho.
