The Reds came from behind to secure a well-deserved win over Aston Villa on Saturday afternoon at Anfield as Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their recent run of great form in domestic action.

MATCH PROCEEDINGS

The hosts maintained cruise control over the game’s tempo in the final third of the proceedings but were unable to translate their control into goals with Aston Villa No.1 Emi Martinez largely untroubled in the first half.

Mohammad Salah came close to putting his side in the lead but the Egypt international’s effort went just wide off Martinez’s goal following which Roberto Firmino had a similar crack to ensure a similar result.

It was Dean Smith’s Midlanders who gained early ground despite being on the backfoot majorly over the first half proceedings when Villa striker Ollie Watkins was found out by a great pass from John McGinn and the former slotted the ball past Alisson Becker with much ease.

Liverpool FC sought to end the opening 45 minutes on a high and it looked as if Klopp’s men had done the same with Roberto Firmino finding the back of the net following a break for the Merseysiders.

But the Brazil international’s goal was disallowed following a much extensive VAR check with Diogo Jota adjudged to be offside in the build-up to the goal.

Following the break, however, the Reds proved to be no match for Villa as an inspired showing from the hosts early on in the second half allowed Mohammad Salah to finally get the better of Martinez in goal as the scoreline went 1-1.

Villa nearly responded in brilliant fashion with Salah’s compatriot Trezeguet rattling the inside of the crossbar with a superb effort as Liverpool FC eased worries by bringing on Sadio Mane and Thiago Alcantara off the bench.

It came to Trent Alexander-Arnold to earn the win for the Reds with the Englishman’s superbly placed finish in the first minute of stoppage time securing a third straight win in top-flight action for Jurgen Klopp and Co.
