MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The home side started strong and should have had an early opening goal to show for their dominance but Brentford No.1 Alvaro Fernandez kept his side in the running.
He made some important saves to deny the likes of Joel Matip and Diogo Jota before Liverpool finally found their well-earned breakthrough heading into the interval.
Trent Alexander-Arnold’s corner went past the Brentford players and Fabinho was there at the right place to nod home his strike as Jurgen Klopp’s men took the slender lead ahead of the second period.
Brentford pushed hard for the leveller after the half time break but were unable to get the better of the Liverpool backline with Diogo Jota hitting the post on the other end of the pitch.
A second goal was secured by the hosts through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s diving header from a fantastic Andy Robertson delivery into the box with a little more than 20 minutes left to play for in the contest.
Liverpool put the match to bed with substitute Takumi Minamino getting in on the action to slot the third and final goal following Brentford misplaying the ball at the back.
