MATCH PROCEEDINGS
The home side started strong with Luis Diaz proving a danger for Leeds but Alisson Becker survived a scare when Daniel James nicked possession from the Liverpool goalie only for Joel Matip to intervene.
On the other end of the pitch, however, the opener came from Mohamed Salah with Liverpool earning a penalty Stuart Dallas handled the ball inside the box.
Diaz was on target to force an important save from Leeds shot-stopper Illan Meslier but the latter was helpless in keeping out Joel Matip near the half hour mark when Liverpool doubled their advantage.
The centre-back made his trademark run forward, exchanging passes with Salah, with the Egyptian setting up Matip for a composed finish past Meslier to make it 2-0.
Salah added to his tally for the evening with another spot-kick coming Liverpool’s way after Sadio Mane was brought down in the box by Luke Ayling.
Liverpool were dominant as ever in the early stages of the second period with Jurgen Klopp’s Reds looking to pile more misery upon the visiting Leeds outfit.
Sadio Mane scored twice in rapid succession with the Senegal forward teed up by Jordan Henderson and substitute Divock Origi for the fourth and fifth goals respectively.
Virgil van Dijk scored from a stoppage-time corner delivery with Liverpool ensuring a 6-0 result on home turf to close the gap on Manchester City to three points.
