Liverpool are backed to complete a shock transfer for Manchester United’s Anthony Martial who is rumoured to be close to an exit from Old Trafford heading into the January transfer window.
According to the rumour mill, Martial’s fall down the pecking order in the Red Devils camp could force the France international striker to leave Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and seal a move elsewhere.
Reports from The Express, however, have suggested that Liverpool could be right in the mix for Martial’s signature with Jurgen Klopp looking to bring in attacking reinforcements from the transfer market.
Constraints on the financial front had prevented the Liverpool manager from signing a fresh face this summer to bolster his options up top on the pitch but with Manchester United keen to offload Martial in the mid-year window, the Reds could be open for a cut-price deal.
A £40 million price-tag is what Manchester United are looking to pocket from the sale of Martial who is not tipped to have a long-term future with the Premier League giants following the summer signing of Cristiano Ronaldo.
