Liverpool are one step closer to one of their major targets, already defined by their new manager, Arne Slot, and the player in question is Lutsharel Geertruida, the versatile Feyenoord defender who will add depth to the Liverpool defense.
The 23-year-old Geertruida has caught the eye of many top English teams, thanks to his skills in playing different defense spots. He usually plays on the right side but can also do well on the left or in the center.
This has made the Reds keen on him as they want to bring in good players to try and compete against Manchester City for the title.
Liverpool are not the only interested party, of course, with Arsenal, currently managed by Mikel Arteta, and Tottenham are also set on the player.
Geertruida moving to Liverpool would return him to Arne Slot as he was the manager at Feyenoord last season. Slot knows Geertruida and his qualities very well.
He played him in many positions in the defense line, which attests to a great deal of trust in the player.

Also, having a known face in the dressing room could do Slot good in easy installation of his authority and system at Liverpool.
Feyenoord was eager to tie Geertruida down on a new deal.
However, interest from such big clubs like Liverpool means chances are they would sell him now rather than probably let him go for free next summer.
Geertruida is in strong form, and it is believed by analysts, he adjusts very quickly to the demands of the English game. Physically imposing and solid in defense, he contributes a lot to the attacking plays of his team as well, creating chances for others.
Geertruida, meanwhile, was seen at Liverpool’s 2-2 draw with West Ham at the London Stadium last week, adding fuel to the fire over his impending move to Anfield.
With interest peaking, Liverpool want the deal sealed and are also leading the way after agreeing to pay the fee that Feyenoord demanded for the Dutchman, hoping to wrap up his signature before anyone else – especially Arsenal or Tottenham – have a chance to make a bid.
The signing of Geertruida would indeed be a smart and strategic first move for Arne Slot at Anfield.
That means purchasing a young Dutch defender who can cover several positions and has previously played under the management style of Slot.
