Reds’ captain Jordan Henderson has rubbished rumors about critics who claim that Liverpool’s forwards are having a poor season so far this campaign.
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool currently sits in 2nd place on the Premier League table nine games into the tournament, but joint top on points with Manchester City as both clubs have won seven and drawn two of their games. However, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City has amassed 26 goals so far while Klopp’s side has netted just 16 with the Liverpool front line coming under heavy criticism for under-performing.
Liverpool’s trio of attackers has not hit their heights of last season where they blazed their way to the Champions League final and not able to replicate the similar form they showed the last term has drawn criticism but midfielder Jordan Henderson has slammed those critics as nonsense.
Ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League encounter against Red Star Belgrade at Anfield, Jordan Henderson responded to remarks about the underperforming side, “I know there is a lot of discussions externally at the moment about how we are getting results and comparisons being made to previous Liverpool sides of the last few years. Just to be clear, as the gaffer has said repeatedly, it’s not a case of looking to sacrifice adventure and attack to become more solid. In fact, I think some of the football we have played so far this season has been as good as anything at this stage of a campaign I’ve been involved with”
The 28-year-old England international went on to explain that he doesn’t really pay attention to all those nonsense talks and it doesn’t affect the team as well, “From my position on the pitch I have a pretty decent view of what is happening ahead of me and the shift the front lads are putting in means we set the tone for a more solid approach. I really don’t buy into the talk that they’re not as fluid as they were last season – that’s nonsense for me.”
Liverpool host Red Star Belgrade at Anfield tonight looking to get all three points in order to strengthen their place for qualification in Group C.
