Liverpool coach speaks out on Marko Grujic’s loan move to Porto

Victor Matos, a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s backroom staff at Liverpool FC, has spoken about Marko Grujic’s loan move to FC Porto this summer as a positive step forward for the Serbian international following his limited playing opportunities at Anfield.

According to reports by SportsWitness, Matos expressed hope for Grujic’s greater development as a first-team player for the Reds over the course of his season-long stay at Porto, where the 24-year old is expected to feature regularly in comparison to his stint in the Liverpool FC shirt.

“Marko had a very regular and consistent year on loan at Hertha Berlin and was at this early stage with us in which he played two official games,” Vítor Matos said about the ex-Hertha Berlin loanee.

The well-stocked midfield department at Jurgen Klopp’s disposal in the Reds’ senior squad was one of the major reasons behind Grujic being awarded bit-part opportunities to showcase his talent on the pitch, despite his immense talent as a central midfield presence, expressed Matos.

“He was one of Serbia’s greatest talents when he was signed. He never got room at Liverpool, due to the options for the positions, and at the same time the market opportunities that arose and allowed him more playing time.”

Following his return to Anfield from a two-year loan stay at Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin, Grujic played just two EFL Cup ties for Klopp’s side over the last few weeks, before moving to Porto in a loan deal running for the duration of the 2020-21 season.
