Liverpool have announced the completion of their signing of PSV star Cody Gakpo who arrives at Anfield in a £35 million deal, confirmed a report from the club’s official website.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a terrific campaign at the 2022 FIFA World Cup with the Dutch national side as Gakpo scored thrice during his country’s run to the last eight of the tournament where they lost to the eventual champions Argentina.
Gakpo had been widely tipped to sign for Liverpool’s arch-rivals Manchester United who had been keeping tabs on the Holland international since the summer with the manager Eric ten Hag keen to reinforce his front line by signing the PSV talisman.
However, it is the Reds who have walked away with the prized signing of Gakpo as the Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp seeks to bolster his injury-hit attacking ranks with wingers Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz sidelined due to injuries until early next year.
Liverpool’s new recruit would arrive on Merseyside on the back of a dazzling run of showings in the Eredivisie with nine goals and 12 assists to his name, leading the charts for both.
