In what would be great news for Liverpool FC supporters across the world, the Merseyside club announced their first major signing of this summer’s transfer window in the form of Kostas Tsimikas. The left-back will seal a move to Anfield following his departure from Olympiacos.
Recent reports over the past few days had speculated that the Premier League champions were closing in on a deal for the 24-year old Tsimikas. Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp was desperate to sign a new full-back this summer to provide cover for Andy Robertson at the club.
Tsimikas joins the Reds with a glowing reputation earned during his time in the Olympiacos shirt. The left-back has played over 80 competitive fixtures for the Greek side over the course of a five-year stay at the Red-Whites. He also brings with himself the prior experience of playing in the Champions League.
It is reported that Liverpool FC have secured Tsimikas’ signing on a long-term deal and is rumored to have cost Jurgen Klopp’s side an £11.75 million fee. The 24-year old will wear the No. 21 jersey for the Reds from next season onwards. The number had previously been worn by Liverpool FC fan-favorite Lucas Leiva.
Tsimikas is tipped to be a worthy deputy for Andy Robertson on the left side of the defense. The former’s playing style has drawn massive comparisons to the Scottish international with Tsimikas too noted for his speed and crossing ability like the 26-year old Liverpool FC first-choice left-back.
