Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Japan midfielder Wataru Endo from Stuttgart on a four-year deal in a much-needed respite to Jurgen Klopp on the transport front.
The Reds head coach had been pushing for a new signing to bolster his depleted midfield roster but had his efforts snubbed by the likes of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia with both players opting to make the move to Chelsea.
A report from Sky Sports has revealed that Endo, who made 133 appearances and scored 15 goals during his four-year-long stint in the Bundesliga with Stuttgart, will join Klopp’s Merseysiders in a deal worth £16.2 million.
The departures of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had left Klopp with little firepower in the centre of the park despite bringing in the highly-rated Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister this summer.
Szoboszlai and Mac Allister, however, are both attack-minded midfield names which could have prompted Klopp and the Liverpool board to scout the market for a natural No.6 option which comes in the form of Endo.
