Following the departure of Alberto Moreno, Liverpool is looking at options to sign a backup left back in the summer transfer window and are considering a €50 million bid for Junior Firpo who plays his football for Real Betis in the La Liga.
Jurgen Klopp has worked his magic at Liverpool after he managed to win the Champions League title with the Merseyside club. The Reds tasted success on the continental stage for the sixth time in their illustrious history but are continuing their 30-year plus wait for a Premier League title.
Ahead of the 2019-20 campaign, the German boss is looking to strengthen his squad even further in a bid to dethrone Manchester City and Klopp is now aware that he needs a team with more depth to win the Premiership having finished just one solitary point behind Pep Guardiola’s team last term.
If Liverpool is to challenge they will need one high quality back up option for each position on the pitch to cover up for an injury or suspension. And after Alberto Moreno was allowed to leave Anfield this summer, the Champions League winners are looking for someone who can provide competition for the super Scotsman Andrew Robertson at left back.
Robertson has been in sublime form over the past few seasons since joining Liverpool but if he suffers an injury or suspension, James Milner is the usual cover-up. The Englishman is not a natural back up option, therefore, Liverpool is looking to snap up a deal for Real Betis defender Junior Firpo.
The 22-year-old had an incredible season with the Spanish side scoring three goals and laying off five more assists. The numbers that Firpo generate certainly suits Klopp’s style of play but Firpo still has four years left on his current contract with Real Betis and his release clause of €50 million will have to be matched.
Firpo is solid in defense and a great dribbler of the ball which means he can provide an outlet in attack as well. The young left back can also cross a lovely ball and Firpo is good at closing opposition players down, all traits that make him a player that fits Klopp’s game style.
