Liverpool have sought to dismiss the rumours of holding an interest in signing Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio in this summer’s transfer window.
The Spanish attacking midfielder was speculated to be one of the names on the shopping list for the Reds head coach Jurgen Klopp who was looking to reinforce his forward lineup before the next season got underway.
According to a report from The Liverpool Echo, however, the 26-year-old Asensio is not being eyed up by the Anfield giants despite reports this summer repeatedly linking the Real Madrid playmaker with a move to Merseyside.
Klopp is said to have postponed his long-standing plans to bring in a new midfield player until 2023 with Borussia Dortmund’s highly-rated starlet Jude Bellingham emerging as a priority target for Liverpool alongside some of Europe’s other big sides.
The England international has earned rave reviews for his displays over the past year and a move to the Premier League could well be on the cards for Bellingham but Dortmund are firm in their decision to retain the midfielder until next summer.
