Liverpool superstar’s Sadio Mane and Andrew Robertson face a race against fitness in order to be in contention for the trip to Turf Moor at Burnley.
In the opening 14 games of the Premier League campaign, Liverpool has done extremely well as they sit in 2nd place on the table and are keeping the pace with leaders Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City beat Watford last night to stretch their lead to 5 points away from Liverpool but the Reds can reduce that deficit back to two points with a win over Burnley tonight.
However, Liverpool has a few minor injury concerns ahead of the fixture against Sean Dyche’s men. Following the dramatic and late 1-0 victory against local Merseyside rivals Everton at the weekend, Jurgen Klopp opened up on the relatively small injury concerns that a few players picked up after the game at Anfield.
While speaking to reporters on Wednesday the Liverpool boss said, “Sadio and Robbo we need to have another look at today. Sadio really had an awful cut on his foot. It needed to be stitched; he is OK but walking around here now in flip-flops and you don’t play in flip-flops! That means at this moment he is not ready, but we will see later. With Robbo, it is not that serious as with Sadio, but we need to have a look.”
Sadio Mane has been electrifying for Liverpool this season and scored seven times already grabbing up two assists in all competitions. The Senegalese international has become an integral part of Liverpool’s team and the 26-year-old could be a big loss for the match against Burnley on Wednesday night.
Even Scottish full-back Andrew Robertson has been a revelation at left back since joining Liverpool. The 24-year-old is the only recognized defender on the left-hand side of the pitch as Alberto Moreno keeps on putting in far from convincing displays. Robertson’s energy both offensively and defensively will be a miss for Liverpool if he is not available.
Despite Mane and Robertson’s injury woes, a trip to Burnley should not be a big thorn in Klopp’s side as the Clarets sit 19th on the Premier League table battling relegation. The Burnley game could also allow Klopp to rotate his squad and bring in some of the fringe players even though they are competing for the title.
