Liverpool end association with long-term sleeve sponsor ahead of next season

The Reds look poised to start their Premier League title defence come next season without a sleeve sponsor. The club’s existing deal with American financial conglomerate Western Union came to an end last season.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were the recipient of £25 million spread evenly over a five-year agreement with Western Union as the Merseyside club’s sleeve sponsor on their kits. However, with Nike now being the Reds’ shirt sponsor, the Western Union badge on the sleeve would not be present from the 2020-21 season onwards.

The Colorado-based financial services company announced the end of their association with Liverpool FC through an official statement. The said declaration was as follows: “Western Union’s sponsorship of Liverpool Football Club has been very successful for both our business and our brand and we are very proud of what we and the club have achieved over the last three seasons.

“However, we evaluate all of our activity, including sponsorships, on a regular basis, and as our business and brand needs and objectives continue to evolve, we have made the decision not to continue with the Liverpool Football Club sponsorship beyond the end of this season.

“We wish Liverpool FC continued success in the future and would like to thank everyone at the club for their support over the years.”

Recent rumours suggest that the Anfield giants are not bothered by the loss of the key sponsorship partner. However, it is speculated that the Merseyside club are indeed negotiating with several interested parties looking to brand their logo on the Liverpool FC shirt’s sleeve.

The chances of Jurgen Klopp’s men taking the pitch when the new season gets underway without a sleeve sponsor are quite high, according to reports. There will certainly be no shortage of worldwide companies trying to close a deal with the Premier League champions in the near future.
